I entitled this Bible Study…
Devarim chapter 22: Let them eat cake …or whatever

Why?
I am glad you asked….
“Let them eat cake“, is an iconic careless expression that never happened.
“Let them eat cake” is the traditional translation of the French phrase “Qu’ils mangent de la brioche”, said to have been spoken in the 18th century by “a great princess” upon being told that the peasants had no bread. Jean-Jacques Rousseau , actually coined this false statement to a young in mind and spirit…the quotation became attributed to Marie Antoinette , although there is no evidence that she said it.
This false accusation was taken as truth by those who were looking for any cause to afflict, accuse, and condemn to death the monarch and the monarchy.
I read the book: Abundance: A Novel of Marie Antoinette, it was a heart breaking tale of the young queens life as a biography based from her and other journals.
It shows me… how power words and mobs can be…sadly if spoken and gathered by angry heartless people.
How does this relate to the Torah portion…… ?
If a group of strangers words are false and vicious…lead to a monarch death and a revolution that last years; one of which the nation is never same is possible….how much so if G-d, forbid… a husband lies on his wife and shames her to the entire community? How much more is evil tongue spoke against neighbors, co-workers and so on…
Let’s get into some definitions:
Lashon hara (or loshon horo, or loshon hora) (Hebrew: לשון הרע; “evil tongue”) is the halakhic term for speech about a person or persons that is negative or harmful to them, even though it is true. It is speech that damages the person(s) that are talked about either emotionally or financially, or lowers them in the estimation of others
Judaism 101 states:
The Power of Speech
Judaism is intensely aware of the power of speech and of the harm that can be done through speech. The rabbis note that the universe itself was created through speech. Of the 43 sins enumerated in the Al Cheit confession recited on Yom Kippur, 11 are sins committed through speech. The Talmud tells that the tongue is an instrument so dangerous that it must be kept hidden from view, behind two protective walls (the mouth and teeth) to prevent its misuse.
I want others to keep in mind this lesson…
Our words, are just as powerful as our fist, and just as powerful as our inaction, avoidance, witness, appearance, thoughts… because they all show evidence of…
Ones Heart!
Let’s continue on..
What to expect this Bible Study.
We have not fully returned to a full schedule, but I would like to ease into Season 6…..therefore we will be calling this part of the Season 5.5… hahahahahaha!
It will not be a full schedule, but at least we have the warm up, because summer isn’t hot enough… right?!?!

But, once we get rockin and rollin……
We will continue to increase in our intro Hebrew vocabulary, intro Hebrew terminology, Tanakh (the actual …. Jewish Bible.. that means no “new testament”) introduction, and Torah Spiritual Teaching.
(Moving on to the Bible Study section)
Blessings of the Torah:

Before we begin the Study of the Torah a Blessing is done. In saying the Blessing we are for filling a mitzvah and Blessing HaShem, of Glory and Truth’s beautiful Torah. A Mitzvah is defined basically as:
- A commandment of the Jewish law.
- The fulfillment of such a commandment.
- A worthy deed.
I, say these Blessings every morning during my morning prayers. And, to ensure I am not leading others into to improper practices, I want to ensure I repeat the Blessings of HaShem, Our Merciful Father’s Torah just incase others may not have yet had a chance today.
Blessings of the Torah:
Blessed are You, HaShem our God, King of the Universe, Who sanctified us with His commandments and commanded us to be engrossed in the words of Torah.
HaShem our God, please make the words of Your Torah pleasant in our mouths and in the mouths of Your people Israel. And may we and our descendants [and the descendants of our descendants] and the descendants of Your people the House of Israel, all know Your Name and be students of Your Torah for its own sake.
Blessed are You, HaShem Who teaches Torah to His people, Israel.
Blessed are You, HaShem our God, King of the Universe Who chose us from among all the peoples and gave us His Torah. Blessed are You, HaShem, Giver of the Torah!
Blessing before the reading of the Torah:
Bor’chu es ado-noy ha-m’voroch.
Bless the L-rd who is blessed.
Congregation and Oleh say:
Boruch ado-noy ha-m’voroch l’olom vo-ed.
Blessed be the L-rd who is blessed for all eternity.
Oleh continues:
Boruch atoh ado-noy elo-haynu melech ho-olom, asher bochar bonu mikol ha-amim, v’nosan lonu es toroso. Boruch atoh ado-noy, nosayn ha-toroh.
Blessed are You, L-rd our G‑d, King of the universe, who has chosen us from among all the nations and given us His Torah. Blessed are You L-rd, who gives the Torah.

Portion of a Portion:
Devarim Chapter 22 verses 1 thru 4
You may not observe your brother’s ox or his sheep lost and conceal yourself from them; you must surely return them to your brother.
But if your brother is not near you or you do not know him, gather it into your house and let it stay with you until your brother seeks it, when you must return it to him.
And so are you to do for his donkey, and so are you to do for his garment, and so are you to do for any lost object of your brother’s that is lost from him which you find. You may not [have no permission to] conceal yourself.
Do not observe your brother’s donkey or his ox collapsing on the road and ignore them. You must surely lift it up with him.
Commentary:
If we have the opportunity to return another’s object, even if it were not of great monetary value…it is our duty to return the item.
It is a great mitzvah , to assist another in need, especially when they are trying to help themselves. On the other hand, if one where expecting us to take on their entire burden… we have no call to endure the abuse. In fact, it would be a mitzvah to not help them in the slightest.
Devarim ch 22 verse 5
A man’s attire [weapons] may not be on a woman nor may a man wear [adorn himself with] a woman’s garment [adornments]; for the abomination of [are distanced before] Adonoy, your God, are all who do these [things].
Commentary:
We are to wear garments or the other sex, nor take on another gender roles. We will go into more detail during the video upload of this command, because this command is soooo much more than just gender clothing and gender roles.
Devarim ch 22 verses 6 thru 7
If you should chance upon a bird’s nest before you on the road in any tree, or on the ground, [with] fledglings or eggs, and the mother is sitting on the fledglings or on the eggs; do not take the mother with her offspring.
You must surely send away the mother and the offspring take for yourself, so that you will benefit and you will live long.
Commentary:
G-d, Blessed be He, wants us to understand actions have consequences.
Simply, because something is possible… doesn’t mean it’s permissible.
Because, something is permissible, does not mean it’ honorable.
Because, something is honorable, does always me it’s for us to personally take up.
One may have anointment, strength and courage, but if that person is lacking wisdom, maturity, and discipline; falls to the ground as waste.
There is a huge difference between the Divine will of G-d and the permitted will of G-d.
The story of balaam,
He said to them, “Spend the night here, and I shall reply to you as יהוה may instruct me.” So the Moabite dignitaries stayed with Balaam.
Number 22: 8-12
God came to Balaam and said, “What do these men want of you?”
Balaam said to God, “Balak son of Zippor, king of Moab, sent me this message:
Here is a people that came out from Egypt and hides the earth from view. Come now and curse them for me; perhaps I can engage them in battle and drive them off.”
But God said to Balaam, “Do not go with them. You must not curse that people, for they are blessed.”
King David, May peace be upon Him,
“Further, say thus to My servant David: Thus said the LORD of Hosts: I took you from the pasture, from following the flock, to be ruler of My people Israel,
ii Samuel ch 7: 8-14
and I have been with you wherever you went, and have cut down all your enemies before you. Moreover, I will give you great renown like that of the greatest men on earth.
I will establish a home for My people Israel and will plant them firm, so that they shall dwell secure and shall tremble no more. Evil men shall not oppress them any more as in the past,
ever since I appointed chieftains over My people Israel. I will give you safety from all your enemies.
“The LORD declares to you that He, the LORD, will establish a house for you.
When your days are done and you lie with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, one of your own issue, and I will establish his kingship.
He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish his royal throne forever.
I will be a father to him, and he shall be a son to Me. When he does wrong, I will chastise him with the rod of men and the affliction of mortals;
The story of Samson
There was a certain man from Zorah, of the stock of Dan, whose name was Manoah. His wife was infertile and had borne no children.
Judges ch 13: 2-10
An angel of GOD appeared to the woman and said to her, “You are infertile and have borne no children; but you shall conceive and bear a son.
Now be careful not to drink wine or other intoxicant, or to eat anything impure.
For you are going to conceive and bear a son; let no razor touch his head, for the boy is to be a nazirite to God from the womb on. He shall be the first to deliver Israel from the Philistines.”
The woman went and told her husband, “An agent of God came to me; he looked like an angel of God, very frightening. I did not ask him where he was from, nor did he tell me his name.
He said to me, ‘You are going to conceive and bear a son. Drink no wine or other intoxicant, and eat nothing impure, for the boy is to be a nazirite to God from the womb to the day of his death!’”
Manoah pleaded with GOD. “Oh, my Sovereign!” he said, “please let the agent of God that You sent come to us again, and let him instruct us how to act with the child that is to be born.”
God heeded Manoah’s plea, and the angel of God came to the woman again. She was sitting in the field and her husband Manoah was not with her.
The woman ran in haste to tell her husband. She said to him, “The man who came to me before has just appeared to me.”
and in my opinion is a perfect example of the above.
Devarim ch 22 verse 8 thru 12
When you build a new home, you are to make a fence for your roof; and do not place blood [death] [liability] in your house, for someone who should fall may fall from it.
Do not plant in your vineyard mixed species, lest the expansion become obnoxious [impure]—the seed that you plant—and the produce of the vineyard.
You may not plow with an ox and with a donkey together.
Do not don a mixture of threads, wool and flax [combined] together.
Make yourself pendant threads upon four corners of your garment that you cover with.
Commentary:
G-d, is in control of everything, including if some where to fall G-d, forbid from a roof. Should any occasion happen that HaShem, calls another to fall…. this command is guiding us to not be an opportunity to the fall. Let the fall G-d forbid, be solely do to their own merits and actions or judgements
Devarim ch 22 verses 13 thru 19
If a man marries a woman, and he has relations with her and hates her.
Then berates her with calumnies [libelous words] and alleges defamation about her, and he claims, ‘‘I married this woman and was intimate with her, and did not find signs of her virginity.’’
The girl’s father and mother will take and will prove the girl’s virginity to [before] the city judges in the [door of the] court [of that place].
The girl’s father should assert to the judges, ‘‘My daughter did I marry to this man as a wife and he hates her.
Look! He has promulgated libelous words, claiming ‘I did not find signs of your daughter’s virginity.’ But this is [the proof of] my daughter’s virginity.’’ And let them spread the cloth before the city judges.
The judges of that city will take the man and will chastise [whip] him.
And they will fine him one hundred silver [shekels] and give [them] to the girl’s father, because he defamed a virgin of Yisroel; and she shall remain his wife, he may not [does not have permission] divorce her all his life.
Commentary:
Last, Bible story we review the article from Judaism 101, Marriage, referring back to the same article I want to point out some more facts regarding Jewish or and Laws.
Acquiring a Spouse
Mishnah Kiddushin 1:1 specifies that a woman is acquired (i.e., to be a wife) in three ways: through money, a contract, and sexual intercourse. Ordinarily, all three of these conditions are satisfied, although only one is necessary to effect a binding marriage.
Marriage, Judaism 101
Acquisition by money is normally satisfied by the wedding ring. It is important to note that although money is one way of “acquiring” a wife, the woman is not being bought and sold like a piece of property or a slave. This is obvious from the fact that the amount of money involved is nominal (according to the Mishnah, a perutah, a copper coin of the lowest denomination, was sufficient). In addition, if the woman were being purchased like a piece of property, it would be possible for the husband to resell her, and clearly it is not. Rather, the wife’s acceptance of the money is a symbolic way of demonstrating her acceptance of the husband, just like acceptance of the contract or the sexual intercourse.
To satisfy the requirements of acquisition by money, the ring must belong to the groom. It cannot be borrowed, although it can be a gift from a relative. It must be given to the wife irrevocably.
In addition, the ring’s value must be known to the wife, so that there can be no claim that the husband deceived her into marrying by misleading her as to its value.
In all cases, the Talmud specifies that a woman can be acquired only with her consent, and not without it. Kiddushin 2a-b.
The Process of Obtaining a Divorce
Divorce, Judaism 101
According to the Torah, divorce is accomplished simply by writing a bill of divorce, handing it to the wife, and sending her away. To prevent husbands from divorcing their wives recklessly or without proper consideration, the rabbis created complex rules regarding the process of writing the document, delivery, and acceptance. A competent rabbinical authority should be consulted for any divorce.
The document in question is referred to in the Talmud as a sefer k’ritut (scroll of cutting off), but it is more commonly known today as a get. The get is not phrased in negative terms. The traditional text does not emphasize the breakdown of the relationship, nor does it specify the reason for the divorce; rather, it states that the woman is now free to marry another man.
It is not necessary for a husband to personally hand the get to the wife. If it is not possible or desirable for the couple to meet, a messenger may be appointed to deliver the get.
It is important to note that a civil divorce is not sufficient to dissolve a Jewish marriage. As far as Jewish law is concerned, a couple remains married until the woman receives the get.
This has been a significant problem: many liberal Jews have a religiously valid marriage, yet do not obtain a religiously valid divorce. If the woman remarries after such a procedure, her second marriage is considered an adulterous one, and her children are considered mamzerim (bastards, illegitimate).
The purpose of the commandments of marriage and divorce are to protect a woman from an evil man.
Devarim ch 22 verses 20 thru 29
However, if the allegation is true; signs of the girl’s virginity were not found.
They are to take the girl out to the entrance of her father’s home and the people of her city will stone her with stones to death, because she committed a disgraceful act against Yisroel by behaving promiscuously [in] her father’s house; and you will eliminate the evil [doer] within you.
If a man is found having intercourse with a woman who is the wife of a man, even both of them shall die—the man who had intercourse with the woman and the woman—and you will eliminate the evil [doer] from Yisroel.
If there will be a virgin girl married to a man, and a man encounters her in the city and has intercourse with her,
You are to take them both out to the court of that city and stone them with stones to death, the girl for the fact that she did not scream in the city and the man for the fact that he oppressed the wife of his peer; and you will eliminate the evil [doer] within you.
But if in the field the man encounters the married girl, and the man holds her and had intercourse with her; then he shall die—only the man who had intercourse with her.
But to the girl you will not do a thing, the girl has no death liability; for, just as if a man rises up against his peer and murders him, so is this matter.
For he encountered her in the field; the married girl screamed, but there was no one to rescue her.
If a man encounters a virgin girl who was not married and grabs her and has intercourse with her; and they are discovered.
The man who had intercourse with her must give to the girl’s father fifty silver [shekels]; and she shall be his wife, since he oppressed her; he may not [has no permission to] divorce her all his life.
Commentary:
Taking a look at the sequence of verses, we can possibly see how the commandments were once again written to protect a woman from an evil man. Similar, to the verses in sequence of Number ch 5 and 6.
We have done classes on those two chapters, but I want to give a brief review to tie into the previous Bible Study, so here we will jump to Sefaria.org.

friendly reminder:
Shout, O infertile one,
You who bore no child!
Shout aloud for joy,
You who did not travail!
For the children of the wife forlorn
Shall outnumber those of the espoused
—said GOD.
Enlarge the site of your tent,
Extend the size of your dwelling,
Do not stint!
Lengthen the ropes, and drive the pegs firm.
For you shall spread out to the right and the left;
Your offspring shall dispossess nations
And shall people the desolate towns.
Fear not, you shall not be shamed;
Do not cringe, you shall not be disgraced.
For you shall forget
The reproach of your youth,
And remember no more
The shame of your widowhood.
For the One who made you—whose name is “ GOD of Hosts”—
Will espouse you.
The Holy One of Israel—who is called “God of all the Earth”—
Will redeem you.
GOD has called you back
As a wife forlorn and forsaken.
Can one cast off the wife of his youth?
—said your God.
For a little while I forsook you,
But with vast love I will bring you back.
In slight anger, for a moment,
I hid My face from you;
But with kindness everlasting
I will take you back in love
—said GOD your Redeemer.
For this to Me is like the waters of Noah:
As I swore that the waters of Noah
Nevermore would flood the earth,
So I swear that I will not
Be angry with you or rebuke you.
For the mountains may move
And the hills be shaken,
But my loyalty shall never move from you,
Nor My covenant of friendship be shaken
—said GOD, who takes you back in love.

Yeesa Adonai panav elecha viyasem lecha shalom
“The L-d bless you and keep you;
The L-d make His face shine upon you,
And be gracious to you;
The L-d lift up His countenance upon you,
And give you peace.” ’

Welcome, the following is a brief review of this Bible Study.
1. This BLOG post will have the resources and sources links for the Season 6 Bible Studies .
2. All Books used and Readings from during Live Bible Study can be found on Our
Website: Marie Speaks GOD’s Grace. Live in the Bible Study Blogs portion of the website.
3. After Live Bible Studies have completed: I will upload to Rumble and Youtube, and post link in this BLOG.
How we conduct Bible Studies here:
We believe in One and Only One G-D. HaShem; The G-D of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
We do not and will not Pray in any others name or Praise any other, but HaShem.
Exodus chapter 20: 2-14.
God spoke all these words, saying:
I the LORD am your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, the house of bondage:
You shall have no other gods besides Me.
You shall not make for yourself a sculptured image, or any likeness of what is in the heavens above, or on the earth below, or in the waters under the earth.
You shall not bow down to them or serve them. For I the LORD your God am an impassioned God, visiting the guilt of the parents upon the children, upon the third and upon the fourth generations of those who reject Me,
but showing kindness to the thousandth generation of those who love Me and keep My commandments.
We believe G-D has called each of us to search matters out.
(It is the glory of God to conceal a matter,
And the glory of a king to plumb a matter.
Like the heavens in their height, like the earth in its depth, Is the mind of kings—unfathomable.. Proverbs 25:2 -3)
This is one reason why here at Marie Speaks G-D’s Grace Bible Study, we review several historical references and resources, of which we provide links and or screen shots for others to study at their leisure.
We have been directed by G-D Wonderful and Almighty, to go Book by Book, Verse by Verse; sharing HIS Torah and Tanakh.
We believe as directed by G-D Our Heavenly Father, learning and growing in Torah and Tanakh leads to understanding and wisdom; this shall only be achieved in reading, studying, and sharing HIS Word for ourselves; not relying on man.
Learning, growing, and studying with OUR L-D is to be done with others that are like minded, but more so during our personal time.
The BLOGs are written to assist those just beginning to study the BIBLE as a starting point. The Live or recorded Bible Studies are to cover and release opportunities and guidance, but ultimately is ones own personal responsibility to rule, govern, and be purposeful in their relationship with G-D.
The effect of humility is fear of the LORD,
Wealth, honor, and life.
Thorns and snares are in the path of the crooked;
He who values his life will keep far from them.
Train a lad in the way he ought to go;
He will not swerve from it even in old age.
The person who sins, he alone shall die. A child shall not share the burden of a parent’s guilt, nor shall a parent share the burden of a child’s guilt; the righteousness of the righteous shall be accounted to him alone, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be accounted to him alone.
Moreover, if the wicked one repents of all the sins that he committed and keeps all My laws and does what is just and right, he shall live; he shall not die.
None of the transgressions he committed shall be remembered against him; because of the righteousness he has practiced, he shall live.
Is it my desire that a wicked person shall die?—says the L-d G-D. It is rather that he shall turn back from his ways and live.
May HaShem, Blessed be He, continue to Bless us all and may we all be forever written in the Book of Life.
O’Amein and O’Amein
