This week’s Jewish terminology word is: Maccabee, Judah

Shalom Children of G-d! Welcome back to Marie Speaks G-d’s Grace Bible Study.
Today we are going to go over our Jewish terminology for the week.
This weeks word is: actually a person in our great Jewish History….Maccabee, Judah
I know this terminology word who is a person for this week may seemed planned… but I a sure you all the terminology words are chosen at random from my personally owned The JPS Dictionary of Jewish Words by Joyce Eisenberg and Ellen Scolnic 2001 copyright 1st edition.
What normally happens is … I ask a child from our homeschooling group to flip through the pages and select a word and read the definition. While, I do believe nothing is by chance and G-D places His Beautiful Spirit upon all those who love Him… I can’t deny I too was a bit surprised.
Our G-D is a miracle working G-D… which is in keeping with this weeks definition. So what is the definition this week for Maccabee, Judah?
I am.. glad you asked:
Maccabee, Judah (JOO-dah MACK-ah-bee) The third son of Mattathias Judah led the rebellion against King Antiochus of Syria in the 1st century B.C.E. after his father died
Judah Maccabee (or Judas Maccabeus, also spelled Machabeus, or Maccabæus, Hebrew:יהודה המכבי, [1]Yehudah HaMakabi) was a Jewish priest (kohen) and a son of the priest Mattathias. He led the Maccabean Revolt against the Seleucid Empire (167–160 BCE).
Mattathias ben Johanan (Hebrew: מַתִּתְיָהוּ הַכֹּהֵן בֶּן יוֹחָנָן, Mattīṯyāhū haKōhēn ben Yōḥānān; died 166–165 BCE) was a Kohen (Jewish priest) who helped spark the Maccabean Revolt against the Hellenistic Seleucid Empire. Mattathias’s story is related in the deuterocanonical book of 1 Maccabees. Mattathias is accorded a central role in the story of Hanukkah and, as a result, is named in the Al HaNissim prayer Jews add to the Birkat Hamazon (grace after meals) and the Amidah during the festival’s eight days.
The Jewish holiday of Hanukkah (“Dedication”) commemorates the restoration of Jewish worship at the Second Temple in Jerusalem in 164 BCE, after Judah Maccabee removed all of the statues depicting Greek gods and goddesses and purified it.
I found a wonderful video on youtube that gives a good understanding of the importance of the Warrior Priest and how brave souls directed by G-D can save a Nation……..May G-D raise up more Warrior in our day…. Omayn and Omayn….I hope others enjoy:
Origins of Hanukkah – Maccabean Anti-Hellenic Rebellion DOCUMENTARY
The celebration and observance of……Hanukkah is one way we observe for the Glory of G-D Almighty HaShem (Blessed be He) and the great miracles that happen when we have courage and faith in Him.
So what is Hanukkah?
Hanukkah is observed for eight nights and days, starting on the 25th day of Kislev according to the Hebrew calendar, which may occur at any time from late November to late December in the Gregorian calendar. The festival is observed by lighting the candles of a candelabrum with nine branches, commonly called a menorah or hanukkiah. One branch is typically placed above or below the others and its candle is used to light the other eight candles. This unique candle is called the shammash (Hebrew: שַׁמָּשׁ, “attendant”). Each night, one additional candle is lit by the shammash until all eight candles are lit together on the final night of the festival. Other Hanukkah festivities include singing Hanukkah songs, playing the game of dreidel and eating oil-based foods, such as latkes and sufganiyot, and dairy foods. Since the 1970s, the worldwide ChabadHasidic movement has initiated public menorah lightings in open public places in many countries.
Below is a hyper linked date to an article that may help others who would like to observe this beautiful part of our history.
In 2022, Hanukkah begins at sundown on Sunday, Dec. 18 and lasts until sundown on Monday, Dec. 26.
I pray others do take time out this season and every season to focus on our creator and give Him and Him alone all the Glory, Honor, and Praise…for saving our Nation then and now.
As it is written….
He who makes peace
He who makes peace in His high places
May He bring peace upon us
And upon all Israel
And say ye Amen.
May He bring peace, may He bring peace
Peace upon us and on all of Israel
May He bring peace, may He bring peace
Peace upon us and on all of Israel.
